iPad Mini 6: Rumours & Speculations

iPad Mini 6: Rumours & Speculations

Apple’s iPad devices are a convenient way to work from anywhere at any time. The devices have all the features of a laptop but are much easier to carry hence can be used while travelling. According to recent reports, it seems the tech giant is working on the latest version. Before we move on to the iPad Mini 6 let’s have a brief look at its predecessor.

iPad Mini 5 Overview

The iPad mini has a 7.9-inch Retina display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, making it Apple’s smallest tablet. The A12 Bionic chip in the iPad mini 5 is Apple’s latest-generation A-series chip, which is used in the iPhone. It’s 3x faster than the previous-generation iPad mini, with 9x faster graphics. The iPad mini 2019 is Apple’s most portable iPad, and despite its diminutive size, it packs a punch. It includes a bright 7.9-inch display that works with the Apple Pencil, as well as a CPU that outperforms the competition in the tiny tablet market. Its price deceives as well, as it costs more than the larger iPad 9.7. For the asking price, we’d want to see an ‘iPad Pro mini’ with Apple Pencil Gen 2 capability. However, it’s difficult not to fall in love with this cute little tab.

iPad mini 5 looks almost identical to the iPad mini 4, but it has several significant improvements beneath the hood. As you may have heard, the 5th-generation iPad mini is essentially an iPad Air 3 in a considerably smaller package. The iPad mini 5 is a powerful tablet that can virtually fit in your pocket, but the size, or lack thereof, maybe a benefit and a curse depending on your needs.

iPad Mini 6’s Features

According to display specialist Ross Young, the upcoming sixth-generation iPad mini will sport an 8.3-inch display. The new display will be larger than the existing 7.9-inch model, thanks to the removal of the Home button and a slimmer bezel design. In recent weeks, there have been more rumours about the iPad mini 6, which is expected to be released this fall. Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, earlier predicted that the new iPad mini would be 8.5 to 9 inches in size, while Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicted that the new iPad mini would have a bigger display with slimmer bezels. The device is believed to carry out tasks such as SMS share with ease.

There has been conflicting information on whether the new iPad mini would include a Home button, but reports increasingly point to an iPad Air 4-style design with no home button or face/touch ID power button. The new iPad mini is believed to contain either an A14 or an A15 CPU, as well as a USB-C port rather than a Lightning port, bringing Apple closer to deleting Lightning from the iPad line-up. The upcoming iPad mini was rumoured to have a tiny LED display by DigiTimes, however a report from Young last week contradicted the claim, stating that the iPad mini 6 will have a regular display rather than a mini-LED display.

Nevertheless, the slate appears to be on track to arrive this year, with a respected Apple gadget analyst predicting that it will arrive in the second half of 2021, maybe in ‘the fall’ (September 22 to December 21). A second report, as well as a third, backed up this assertion, so it appears extremely likely. The various connectivity and storage space variants of the iPad mini 5 cost between $399 / £399 / AU$599 and $679 / £669 / AU$1019. We’d expect the iPad mini 6 to cost a little more, based on the rumoured spec improvements of this new tablet, though it’s quite conceivable it’ll arrive at the same price.
